Aphyocharax paraguayensis, commonly known as the Panda Tetra, is a small, active fish native to the river basins of the Rio Paraguay in South America

Habitat

• Distribution: Found in southern Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay
• Environment: Prefers densely vegetated streams and small tributaries with soft, slightly acidic to neutral water

Aquarium Care

• Tank Size: A small group can be kept in an aquarium with base dimensions of 60 x 30 cm
• Water Conditions:
  • Temperature: 22 27C (72 81F).
  • pH: 5.5 7.5.
  • Hardness: 18 268 ppm.
• Dcor: Provide areas of dense vegetation, twisted roots, and pieces of bogwood. Floating vegetation is also beneficial.

Diet

• Omnivorous: Accepts most dried, frozen, and live foods, with a preference for live food.

Behavior and Compatibility

• Active and Peaceful: Generally peaceful but may nip at long-finned or slow-moving tankmates
• Shoaling Fish: Best kept in groups of at least six

Reproduction

• Egg-scattering: Spawns in soft, acidic water with clumps of fine-leaved plants
