Flagtail (Red Fin Prochilodus)

Is your large community tank looking a little dull? Then let the Flagtail Fish brighten up your tank! As they get older these fish develop a beautiful red color on their head and fins while their tail varies in colors ranging from yellow, black and red to deep red and black. These fish can be found eating plankton, insects, crustaceans, algae, and soft leaves of aquatic plants in the wild, so feeding them a diet that offers plenty of vegetable matter in the form of algae wafers and spirulina is recommended for optimum health. Growing close to 14 inches in length a minimum of 100 gallons is recommended to keep one adult and as always, while adding more fish means adding more tank space. Some tank mates for these fish include other large characins, peaceful cichlids, knifefish, arowana and freshwater stingrays.
